Phthalates have been known to cause cancer, birth defects and other harmful effects on the body, which is why there are increased restrictions from many governing organizations. Many floors contain phthalates, which as most people know have been banned in children’s toys and water bottles. As floors are sanded, swept, machine cleaned and buffed, particulate is released into the air, which can be potentially hazardous. California Prop 65 and the EPA are leading the way to ban phthalates. Globally, many countries have already done it.
